Come make your own custom strap harness with THE BIG STRAP PROJECT at CAMP, Margate. They run playful workshops where you'll learn the basic skills required to cut out, rivet press and fashion your dream harness...
We have a huge collection of second-hand bags, belts, buckles, book covers, balls and hardware which our straps are created from. From scrap to strap, there's something so satisfying about creating something cheeky from an outdated clutch.
Join us for the next workshop at CAMP and make your own strap that fits your unique body and feels euphoric to wear!
What to expect: Dee will provide you with a ‘How to’ zine with diagrams as well as talking you through and demonstrating different techniques. We will have optional comfort breaks, folks will be seated at tables, there will be a rivet press on another table - which either can be moved to participants on table or participants can travel between tables for use of machine.
The tools we will be using: the rivet press requires pressing down on the handle with body weight leaning over the press. Assistance from Dee can be given here. The leather hole punchers are either operated using a squeezing action (like pliers) or a push down of the handle onto table. Scissors and rotary cutters are also used. Some parts of putting together the straps can be fiddly. Again Dee can be of assistance here. There will be examples of straps and plenty of materials to get your creative juices going! Chatting between participants is encouraged but entirely optional. We often find that folks get so stuck into their projects and that there’s not much time to chat!
Being photographed is entirely optional- Dee will ask your preference at the start of the session.
Please arrive within the first 30 minutes of the session. This is to ensure you don't miss safety information and that you have enough time to complete your project.
